Rivières en furie, ponts qui s'effondrent, tornades... Un déluge sans précédent s'abat depuis des jours sur les Etats-Unis. Coupés du monde, les Grady assistent à de mystérieux événements : leurs voisins ont tous disparu, les animaux meurent les uns après les autres et la nourriture se fait de plus en plus rare.
